Lawrence Tan Electrical Enterprise: tripping checks, DB upgrades and wiring, Johor Bahru

Lawrence Tan Electrical Enterprise (it also signs as LTEE) is a Johor Bahru electrician business. It advertises several times a week in the city’s Chinese-language electrician and renovation groups on Facebook. Most of its posts are about finding the cause of tripping and earth leakage. It also takes on house and shop wiring, DB upgrades, three-phase and factory work, and EV charger installation. Since August 2026 its posts have also shown an electrical goods shop at Taman Ehsan Jaya.

What it offers comes from its own posts and photos, January to September 2026. It describes what the business advertises, not work we’ve checked. The register and listing checks are ours (October 2026).

What it advertises

Its posts in 新山拉电佬介绍群 and 新山装修(拉电群), two of the main JB electrician groups, cover:

  • Tripping and earth leakage. Finding why an RCCB/ELCB or MCB keeps tripping, testing circuit by circuit, and replacing burnt MCBs, sockets and loose neutral connections. Many of its case posts are about burnt main switches, meter fuses and cut-out fuses. Posts from late March to April 2026 give a flat inspection fee of RM250 (28 March). No later post repeats the fee.
  • DB work. Replacing and upgrading DB boxes, adding a second board or new circuits, and fitting MCBs, RCCBs and main switches. An August 2026 post offers whole-house rewiring of older single-, double- and three-storey houses in surface PVC trunking. The same post lists DB and ELCB/MCB replacement among its services.
  • New-house and renovation wiring. Concealed wiring before the ceiling goes up, with points for lights, fans, sockets, airconds, water heaters, TV, network and CCTV. Several posts from June to September 2026 follow house jobs from start to handover. A July 2026 post offers a free on-site estimate in some areas.
  • Earthing. A May 2026 post reports bringing a house’s earth reading down from 19.57 Ω to 7.96 Ω.
  • EV chargers. A March 2026 package for a three-phase supply starts at RM2,500. It includes up to 10 m of 10 mm² three-phase cable, a 32 A isolator, a 40 A 3P MCB, a 30 mA Type A 4-pole ELCB, and testing. Extra cable costs RM120 a metre.
  • Commercial and factory work. This covers main cable and meter work for shops, restaurants, a cafe, a gym and schools, as well as apartment-floor MCCBs, factory isolators and MCCBs, a capacitor bank and high-bay lighting. An April 2026 factory post says site inspections are charged, with the fee deducted if the job goes ahead.

Most of its ads name Johor Bahru, Skudai and Iskandar Puteri. Some also list Bukit Indah, Mount Austin, Permas, Masai, Kulai, Senai and Ulu Tiram (March 2026, September 2026).

Its posts make several claims about itself:

  • 30 years’ experience as an electrician in Singapore and Malaysia, and more than 1,000 inspections.
  • A “licensed electrician” (持证电工, February 2026) and a “Professional Electrical Contractor” (March and April 2026). See the register check below.
  • A nine-person team doing at least four jobs a day (March 2026).

Between April and July 2026 it posted job ads for electricians. They give a separate number for applicants, 016-748 3347. Its April ad required applicants to hold a PW (wireman) card.

Prices compared

The RM250 inspection fee and the EV package are the only job prices it advertises. Our house wiring price guide doesn’t cover inspection fees or EV charger installs yet, so we can’t say how these compare. Its EV post quotes its own “JB market prices”: RM3,500–4,500 from installer companies and RM2,800–3,500 from independent electricians. That comparison is the business’s own, not ours. It hasn’t advertised a price for replacing a DB. In a May 2026 thread, most wiremen quoted RM350–500 to replace a small single-phase DB with all-new parts (see the house wiring price guide). Ask for an itemised quote.

The shop

Its 26 August 2026 post shows a shopfront at Blok A 01-09, Jalan EJ 1/3, Taman Ehsan Jaya. The sign reads “Kedai Barangan Elektrik — Lawrence Tan Electrical Enterprise”. Beside it is a Schneider Electric panel marked “Pengedar Sah” (authorised dealer). The post lists stock of Schneider Electric products, EPS MCBs and ELCBs, switches and sockets, LED fittings, cable and casing, and gives daily hours of 8am to 5pm. An earlier post sells wall fans at RM110 and also lists water heaters and exhaust fans. The business isn’t on Schneider’s published Malaysian distributor list, so treat “authorised dealer” as the shop’s own description.

A September 2026 flyer gives a different address: No. 152, Jalan Teratai 49, Taman Johor Jaya. We found no Google Maps listing for either address. Message first to confirm where to go.

Register check

None of these appear in Suruhanjaya Tenaga’s public registers of electrical contractors and competent persons (snapshot of 6 October 2026):

  • the numbers 011-6972 9419 and 016-748 3347
  • the name Lawrence Tan Electrical Enterprise
  • its business registration number, 201803359089 (JM0884209-U), taken from its signboard

That doesn’t mean no one on the team is registered. Registered people often work under another company or number, and Singapore licences aren’t on ST’s lists. For wiring or DB work, ask which registered wireman or contractor will test and sign off the job. Our JB electricians guide explains the check.
