Schneider Easy9 RCBO in Malaysia: the two 10mA models, what "1P+N" means, and where to buy

An RCBO combines an MCB and an RCCB in one device: it trips on overload and short circuit like an MCB, and on earth leakage like an RCCB. In Malaysian homes it’s commonly used on water-heater circuits, because the Energy Commission requires leakage protection of 10mA or less on water-heater circuits. A 10mA RCBO gives that circuit its own leakage protection, so a leak in the heater doesn’t take out the rest of the house.

As of 6 October 2026, Schneider Malaysia’s product list for the Easy9 RCBO range shows just two models. Both are 10mA, which suits that water-heater use. (Other Easy9 RCBO codes appear in documents attached to the range, but they have no Schneider Malaysia product page.)

Schneider’s EZ9D16625 datasheet, dated April 2024 and hosted by a Malaysian seller, adds the practical details:

  • Size: 18mm wide, the width of a single-pole MCB, 93mm high and 70mm deep, on DIN rail.
  • Terminals: up to 16mm² upstream and 10mm² downstream.
  • Wiring: neutral on the left. Suitable for isolation, for 230V AC.
  • Standards: IEC 61009-1 and IEC 61009-2-2. The second matters; see voltage dependence below.

The 32A model’s Schneider page gives the same core ratings at 32A.

The choice between them follows the circuit, not the heater’s brand. The Energy Commission’s water-heater guideline matches the protective device to the heater’s rating and the cable. The table gives minimum ratings: 25A for heaters up to about 4.46kW, and 32A for about 4.5–5.7kW, still on 4mm² cable. The breaker must never be rated above what the circuit’s cable can carry. Our water heater guide covers the ratings and cable sizes.

“2 pole” or “1P+N”?

Several Malaysian listings describe EZ9D16625 as “25A 2 pole”. Schneider rates it 1P+N, which conventionally means one protected pole plus a neutral. Schneider lists it as suitable for isolation, but its Malaysian pages and datasheet don’t spell out how the neutral is switched. If a quote or listing says “2P RCBO”, check it’s the code you want, EZ9D16625 or EZ9D16632, rather than relying on the pole description.

Voltage dependence and the 2-pole rule

Two technical points come up when electricians choose a water-heater RCBO.

  • The 2-pole rule. The Energy Commission’s water-heater guideline (GP/ST/No.6/2016, Table 5) requires a 2-pole RCD on a single-phase water-heater circuit. If your installer needs to show that, confirm with the supplier or Schneider how this 1P+N device switches the neutral.
  • Voltage dependence. The datasheet cites IEC 61009-2-2, the standard for voltage-dependent RCBOs. A voltage-dependent device may not trip if the neutral is lost. ST’s guidelines don’t distinguish voltage-dependent from voltage-independent devices, but some Malaysian electricians avoid voltage-dependent RCBOs in homes, citing MS 1979. Our water heater guide explains this.

RCBO or RCCB plus MCB?

Electricians in Malaysian groups split on this. Some prefer one RCBO per water heater. Others prefer a separate 2-pole 10mA RCCB and an MCB. Their reasons: an RCBO trip doesn’t show whether it was overload or leakage, proper two-pole 10mA RCBOs are hard to find locally, and some are wary of voltage-dependent designs. Both routes meet the 10mA requirement.

In Schneider’s Easy9 range, the RCCB route is a 2-pole 25A 10mA RCCB (EZ9R14225 Type AC or EZ9R26225 Type A) with an MCB rated no higher than 25A. An RCBO takes less board space. EZ9D16625 is one 18mm module, while the 2-pole RCCB is 36mm before you add the MCB. The 32A RCBO also covers a case the Easy9 RCCBs on Schneider Malaysia’s pages don’t: their 10mA versions stop at 25A.

Type A detects ordinary AC leakage and also pulsating DC leakage, which appliances with electronic controls can produce. Of the two 10mA Easy9 RCCBs, only EZ9R26225 is Type A, while both Easy9 RCBOs are.

Where to find them

These sellers list them online. A listing shows what a seller advertises, not confirmed stock today.

YK Electrical Supplies, a Selangor/KL industrial distributor, has pages for both EZ9D16625 and EZ9D16632, with WhatsApp enquiry.

Plus Power Solution at 10 Jalan BP 5/3, Bandar Bukit Puchong, lists EZ9D16625 with enquiry and WhatsApp buttons and the datasheet download. It’s open Monday to Friday, 8:30am–5:30pm, on +603-5887 1755, and its store profile has the WhatsApp number and directions.

WB Electrical & Lighting in Simpang Ampat, Penang, lists EZ9D16625 with WhatsApp enquiry. Its “In Stock” label is a default on that website platform, not a stock confirmation.

KVC, an electrical distributor whose site presents it as part of Sonepar, lists EZ9D16632 with its datasheet attached and shows prices only to signed-in accounts.

EZ9D16625 is also sold on Shopee and Lazada by several stores.

When you order, ask for the exact code. Schneider has other RCBOs, such as the Acti 9 range, that turn up on Malaysian marketplaces, but they aren’t part of this Easy9 list.
