Tonn Cable CU/PVC house-wiring cable: strands, ST approvals, SIRIM licence and prices in Malaysia
Tonn Cable is often named with Mega among the “JKR cable” brands in Malaysian wiring groups. Its house wire is CU/PVC: single-core, stranded copper, PVC-insulated, 450/750V to MS 2112-3 and IEC 60227-3, made by Tonn Cable Sdn Bhd in Beranang, Selangor. Tonn publishes more about this cable than most makers: a data sheet with the strand make-up, and the SIRIM and Energy Commission certificates themselves.

Approvals and certificates
- Energy Commission approval for each size. ST’s public listing shows TONN CABLE single-core non-sheathed cable approved as 014304/24 (1.5mm²), 014303/24 (2.5mm²), 014299/24 (4mm²), 014301/24 (6mm²), 014305/24 (10mm²) and 014306/24 (16mm²), plus 25 and 35mm². The certificate Tonn publishes, for “PVC insulated non-sheathed cable” under the trade name TONN CABLE, lists the same eight numbers and runs to 2 July 2027.
- SIRIM certification mark. SIRIM QAS licence PT049501 covers Tonn’s “PVC-insulated cables (non-sheathed) for fixed wiring” to MS 2112-3, 1.5–630mm² at 450/750V. Tonn has been certified since June 2004, and the published copy is valid until 24 June 2027.
- JKR eMAL. Tonn Cable is on JKR’s approved list for PVC insulated cable, and its certifications page also shows TNB, Bomba, SESB and SESCO approvals for its wider range.
What the data sheet says
Tonn’s CU/PVC data sheet gives the construction for each size:
| Size | Strands (number/diameter) | Insulation | Overall diameter | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1.5mm² | 7/0.53mm | 0.7mm | 3.0mm | 22kg/km |
| 2.5mm² | 7/0.67mm | 0.8mm | 3.6mm | 35kg/km |
| 4mm² | 7/0.85mm | 0.8mm | 4.1mm | 51kg/km |
| 6mm² | 7/1.04mm | 0.8mm | 4.8mm | 72kg/km |
| 10mm² | 7/1.35mm | 1.0mm | 6.0mm | 120kg/km |
The strand column is useful when checking any brand. Seven strands of 0.67mm add up to 2.5mm² of copper, so a “2.5mm²” cable with visibly thinner strands under a thick jacket is undersized. A 100m roll of 1.5mm² should weigh about 2.2kg and 2.5mm² about 3.5kg before packaging.
The conductor is plain annealed copper (Class 2). Tonn lists the standards as MS 2112-3, IEC 60227-3, BS EN 50525-2-31, SS 358-3 (Singapore) and SNI 04-6629.3 (Indonesia). The product page lists red, yellow, blue, black, green, white, brown, grey and green/yellow. A 600/1000V version to BS 6231 is also listed in 1.5–6mm². Tonn also makes the sheathed PVC/PVC single-core cable, flat twin and armoured cables. ST lists those separately, so order “CU/PVC” if you want the single-insulated wire for conduit.
What electricians say
Tonn is in the same top group as Mega in Malaysian wiring groups. One wireman’s tier list (Pendawai Elektrik, July 2025) put “Mega, Fajar, TONN” in the highest tier, and a reply named “Tonn & Mega” as its examples of top-quality cable. A Puchong seller grouped Tonn with Mega, Multi Wire and Ta Tun as “JKR” cable, priced above budget SIRIM brands. These are opinions, not test results.
What it costs
Fewer stores list Tonn than Mega on Malaysian marketplaces. Advertised roll prices on BigGo Malaysia (8 October 2026):
- 1.5mm²: RM155–184 for 100m rolls (hoielectrical, AEHYB in Negeri Sembilan, a TikTok shop), with one RM95 listing that doesn’t state the length.
- 2.5mm²: RM215–240 for 100m rolls (hoielectrical, KHE Electrical Online Mall in KL, AEHYB; KHE’s is the 600/1000V version), with one listing at RM125.
- 4mm²: RM169–370 across five listings (Wires Master in Kedah RM169, RedStore77 in Johor RM195, WES Malaysia RM212).
At AEHYB, which lists both, Tonn and Mega Kabel were priced the same: RM170 for 1.5mm² and RM240 for 2.5mm². Wiremen’s groups advertise lower trade prices. In January 2026 a Puchong seller offered “JKR” brands including Tonn at RM85 (1.5mm²), RM128 (2.5mm²) and RM220 (4mm²).
Where to buy
Tonn Cable’s factory and head office is at Lot 1, Jalan Perusahaan 5, Kawasan Perusahaan Beranang, 43700 Beranang, Selangor, tel. (+603) 8766 9888 (tonncable.com). It also takes quotation requests on its website. Teknopuri in Cheras advertises a direct account with Tonn among more than ten cable makers, and shops in our store directory show Tonn on their signboards or brand lists. Listings show what a seller advertises, not confirmed stock.
