Cablelink PVC cable: the budget "SIRIM cable", its ST approvals, roll lengths and prices in Malaysia

Cablelink is one of the budget brands behind the phrase “wayar SIRIM”. It’s sold by many Malaysian electrical shops and marketplace stores as single-core PVC-insulated copper cable, 450/750V, at a clear discount to the “JKR” brands Mega Kabel, Southern Cable and Tonn Cable. It’s a genuinely approved cable. It just isn’t one of the makers on JKR’s list, and its maker is harder to pin down.

Approvals: what we could confirm

  • Energy Commission approval for each size. ST’s public listing shows CABLELINK single-core, Class 2, non-sheathed PVC cable approved as 001703/24 (1.5mm²), 001702/24 (2.5mm²), 001704/24 (4mm²), 001705/24 (6mm²), 001706/24 (10mm²), 001707/24 (16mm²) and 001708/24 (25mm²). They were listed on 8 October 2026. So Cablelink is approved house wire, and rolls should carry the ST-SIRIM marking printed on the insulation.
  • JKR eMAL. Cablelink is not among the 22 makers on JKR’s approved list for PVC insulated cable. In electricians’ terms it’s “SIRIM cable”, not “JKR cable”.
  • Maker and SIRIM licence. We couldn’t identify the manufacturer or find a published SIRIM licence or data sheet. ARC Power Marketing of Sungai Buloh lists the Cablelink range in 1.5–25mm² and five colours (red, green, blue, black and yellow). One KL shop lists the 2.5mm² roll as model CM1C002.5MM-PVC-100M, “1C 2.5mm sq 450/750V PVC CU cable”. ST also lists a separate brand, “CL”, with its own approvals. We haven’t established whether it’s related, so don’t take a “CL” roll as Cablelink.

Roll length

Cablelink is sold by the roll, but not every roll is 100m. Superlighting describes its 4mm² roll as “approximately 90m”, a Shopee store (hoielectrical) lists the 1.5mm² roll as “85 meter +-” at RM95, and one KL shop’s model code says 100M. Most listings don’t state a length at all. Ask the seller and compare prices per metre. Short rolls aren’t only a budget-brand habit: some listings for JKR-listed Yogawa and Tai Sin are 80–90m too.

What electricians say

One wireman’s tier list (Pendawai Elektrik, July 2025) placed Cablelink in tier 4 of 5 with Blue Tech and Million: near the top of the budget brands, above eleven others, and below only Mega, Fajar and Tonn. In a March 2026 thread about 2.5mm² versus 4mm² cable (Tukang Apa Hari Ini), one commenter said Cablelink 4mm² was only as thick as Mega 2.5mm² (“Cablelink 4mm bru sama tebal dgn Mega 2.5mm”), and others said SIRIM brands come in grades, calling Itoku soft next to “JKR spec” Mega, Multi Wire or Southern. Others defend ordinary SIRIM cable as perfectly adequate. These are impressions, and outside thickness says nothing certain about the copper inside. To check, count the strands and look at their thickness: 4mm² is 7 strands of about 0.85mm and 2.5mm² is 7 of about 0.67mm, per Tonn’s data sheet.

What it costs

Advertised roll prices on BigGo Malaysia (8 October 2026):

  • 1.5mm²: median RM98, mostly RM90–118 (11 listings), with one at RM43 and one at RM130.
  • 2.5mm²: median RM165, mostly RM152–195 (8 listings), with one at RM69.90.
  • 4mm²: median RM261, mostly RM235–333 (12 listings), with three at RM460–470.
  • 6mm²: RM370–374; 10mm²: RM555–659.

Shop sites: Focus Electrical lists Cable Link 1.5mm² at RM77.00 a coil and Superlighting 4mm² at RM175 (about 90m). At stores selling several brands at the same size, Cablelink was clearly cheaper:

That’s about 30% less per roll at the same store, ranging from 19% to 44% across sizes and stores. Per metre the gap may be smaller: AEHYB’s RM95 1.5mm² listing doesn’t state a length, and the same listing at another store says 85m. Group sellers go lower again: an April 2025 post in a Setapak community group offered “Cablelink/GEM SIRIM cable” at RM57 (1.5mm²), RM93 (2.5mm²) and RM158 (4mm²).

Where to buy

Cablelink is stocked by general electrical and hardware shops. Sellers we saw in October 2026 include Focus Electrical (shop site, Shopee and Lazada), Edaran Eleknas (KL), Crystal Land Aircond (Johor) and Excel Electrical in Seri Kembangan. ARC Power Marketing in Sungai Buloh (tel. 03-6142 8177, [email protected]) lists the range for trade enquiries. A listing shows what a seller advertises, not confirmed stock.
