Maxguard RCBO and RCCB for water heaters: the 10mA models, Type A, and what they cost in Malaysia

Maxguard is one of the Malaysian budget breaker brands that wiremen install every day. Opinion on it in electrical groups is split: some use it without complaint, while others call it a budget Type AC brand that they wouldn’t choose for a home any more. Here’s what Maxguard’s own catalogue actually offers for the most common question, 10mA protection for a water heater, and what it costs locally.

The ML32-1 RCBO

Maxguard’s current catalogue (the March 2022 edition its website links to) lists the ML32-1 RCBO series:

• Ratings: 6, 10, 16, 20, 25 and 32A, in B and C curves;
• Sensitivities: 10, 30 and 100mA;
• Residual types: both Type AC and Type A;
• Other specs: 6kA breaking capacity, 240V, a drawing showing an 18mm-wide body, and a 60-month warranty (terms apply).

So the full range does include 10mA Type A RCBOs at 25A and 32A, not just the cheap Type AC versions most marketplace listings show. The table above lists all 72 catalogue codes; the 24 10mA models are the ones with 01 after the amps.

The order code tells you which one you have. The pattern below is our reading of the catalogue table, so confirm on the product:

• R plus the amps as two digits (06 for 6A);
• then the sensitivity: 01 for 10mA, 03 for 30mA, 10 for 100mA;
• then the curve, B or C;
• and a final A for Type A.

For example, R2501C is 25A, 10mA, C curve, Type AC, and R2501CA is the same in Type A.

Two caveats from the catalogue:

• Voltage dependence: it cites IEC 61009-1 / IEC 61009-2-2, and lists its RCD characteristics under IEC 61008-2-2. Part 2-2 of each is the voltage-dependent version, which some Malaysian electricians avoid in homes.
• Poles: the catalogue doesn’t state them. The drawing shows a live and a neutral terminal at each end, and Malaysian sellers variously call it “2P”, “1P+N” or “1P”. One distributor’s listing describes it as “2POLE (1L+1N)”. ST’s water-heater guideline asks for a 2-pole RCD on a single-phase heater circuit, so if your installer needs to show that, ask the supplier how the neutral is switched.

The ML63-1 RCCB route

Maxguard’s ML63-1 RCCB is designed to IEC 61008-2-1, according to its catalogue. Part 2-1 is the standard for RCCBs that work independently of line voltage. The catalogue also lists:

• 10, 30, 100 and 300mA;
• Type AC and Type A;
• a 3000A 8/20µs surge rating without tripping, which the catalogue calls “anti nuisance tripping”;
• a 10kA conditional short-circuit rating with a 10kA back-up fuse;
• 2-pole units 36mm wide.

Its only 10mA model is E25201N, a 2-pole 25A Type AC RCCB. With an MCB of 25A or less, it suits heaters up to about 4.46kW under ST’s water-heater table. Type A comes only at 30 and 100mA. The 4-pole ML100-1 is a 100A Type AC unit for three-phase main boards. All the ML63-1 and ML100-1 codes are on our Maxguard RCCB page.

What they cost

Local prices, October 2026:

BigGo, a Malaysian price-comparison site, shows the 20A 10mA Type AC RCBO at:

• RM66 at FOCUS Electrical on Lazada;
• RM78 at yoyo electrical (Selangor) on Shopee;
• RM80 on Lazada;
• RM88 at X-MAN Center (Kelantan);
• RM92 at two Selangor stores;
• RM103 at CPE Electrical (Penang).

A few stores list it far higher, at RM178–191.80. A Type A 20A 10mA RCBO is listed at RM169 by a Selangor Shopee store, roughly twice the typical Type AC price. Confirm the exact code (R2001BA or R2001CA) with the seller.

For comparison, Schneider’s 10mA routes are listed on our Easy9 RCBO, Easy9 RCCB and Vigi iC60 pages. Schneider’s 2021 Malaysian list price for its 25A Type A Easy9 10mA RCBO, EZ9D16625, was RM272.30 before trade discounts. The closest Maxguard comparison is the Type A RCBO at RM169. Schneider’s figure is a list price, not a shop price, so the two aren’t directly comparable.

• KVC, a Malaysian electrical distributor, lists E25201N, with prices for signed-in accounts.
• Shopee and Lazada have many Maxguard RCBO listings. Many describe the RCBO as “2P”, so order by the exact code and type (AC or A) rather than the listing title.
