Southern Cable in Malaysia: the Kedah cable maker and its house-wiring cable
Southern Cable is a Malaysian cable maker based in Kuala Ketil, Kedah, and part of Southern Cable Group Berhad, which is listed on Bursa Malaysia. The company says it was established in 1993. Most of its revenue comes from power cables and wires: RM1.62 billion of the group’s RM1.76 billion in 2025, and 86.7% of group revenue came from Malaysia, according to its 2025 annual report. For homeowners, it’s one of the “JKR cable” brands electricians name alongside Mega.

What it makes
Southern’s product list runs from overhead-line conductors and 132kV cable to medium-voltage, control and instrumentation, fire-resistant, communications and railway cables. Its building and construction cables are PVC-insulated non-sheathed cable (the house wire), XLPE-insulated cables and armoured cables. It also makes aluminium conductors, and marketplace stores list Southern aluminium PVC cable, so check that a “Southern” listing for house wiring is copper.

Approvals
ST’s public listing shows Southern Cable’s single-core house-wire approvals for 1.5 to 35mm², along with approvals for its sheathed cables and flexible cords. Southern Cable is on JKR’s eMAL list for PVC insulated cable. Its annual report cites SIRIM QAS, TÜV SÜD and UL among its certifications, but the website doesn’t publish the licences.

Southern sells through cable distributors and electrical shops. Teknopuri in Cheras advertises a direct account with Southern, and shops in our cable supplier list show the Southern Cable logo on their signboards or brand lists. Online, prices vary more by store than by brand. The product page compares October 2026 prices with Mega Kabel at the same store. A listing or signboard shows what a seller advertises, not confirmed stock.
