Hager RCCBs in Malaysia: the four 10mA models, Type A vs AC, "2P" vs "1P+N", and prices

An RCCB (residual current circuit breaker, often still called an ELCB) trips when current leaks to earth. It has no overload or short-circuit protection of its own, so it always works with MCBs. In Malaysian homes the question is usually which 10mA device to put on the water-heater circuit. The rule (Electricity Regulations 1994, regulation 36(2), and the Energy Commission’s water-heater guideline GP/ST/No.6/2016) is leakage protection of 10mA or less, from either an RCBO or an RCCB plus MCB. Hager Malaysia’s FAQ puts it in terms of its own products: “it is mandatory to install 10mA RCCB for water heater protection”, at the distribution board and used only for the water heater.

As of 6 October 2026, Hager Malaysia’s RCCB category lists 63 RCCBs: 4 at 10mA, 25 at 30mA, 17 at 100mA, 14 at 300mA and 3 at 500mA, from 16A to 100A. The table shows the four 10mA models, the common 2-pole and 4-pole 30mA models and two 100mA models, followed by the 20 RCCB pages Hager Malaysia keeps outside the category, each marked obsolete, spare part or phase out.

The four 10mA models

All four are 230V, 2-module devices. Inc is the conditional short-circuit current to EN 61008-1, the fault level the RCCB withstands when it’s protected by suitable upstream devices; it is not a breaking capacity like an MCB’s.

Hager Malaysia also has a page for CCA525D (1P+N 25A 10mA Type A), but it’s marked Obsolete, and it isn’t in the category list. It’s the only 10mA RCCB among the pages Hager Malaysia keeps outside the category. If a seller offers it, it may be old stock.

Which rating? The Energy Commission’s water-heater guideline (GP/ST/No.6/2016) sets minimum MCB/RCD ratings by heater power at 230V: 16A below about 2.86kW, 20A to about 3.57kW, 25A to about 4.46kW and 32A to about 5.71kW. The RCCB’s current rating should be at least that of the MCB protecting the heater circuit. CC216B suits the small range; CC225B and CCA225B cover most home heaters with a C20 or C25 MCB; CCA540D is the only 10mA Hager RCCB above 25A, for 32A or 40A heater circuits. “2P” or “1P+N”?

Hager’s titles call CC225B “2P” and CCA225B “1P+N”, but they’re the same kind of device. Both product pages list “Type of pole: 1P+N” and “Number of poles: 2”: live and neutral both pass through the RCCB, and it disconnects both when it trips. (The 4-pole models are listed the same way, as “3P+N” with 4 poles.)

That matters because the water-heater guideline’s single-phase scheme calls for a 2-pole RCD. Each of Hager’s four 10mA RCCBs is a 2-pole device by Hager’s own specification, whichever label is in the title.

Type A or Type AC?

Type AC detects ordinary alternating leakage current. Type A also detects pulsating DC leakage, which some electronic controls can produce. Hager Malaysia’s leaflet for its Type A RCCBs says they respond “to the different types of sinusoidal alternating residual currents and pulsating direct residual currents” and are used where loads run “without frequency converters or rectifiers”; its FAQ calls Type A “suitable for equipment with electronic components”. The Energy Commission’s domestic wiring guide notes that Type AC is the most common in homes and encourages Type A where there’s a lot of electronic equipment.

At 10mA, Hager’s Type A options are CCA225B (25A) and CCA540D (40A). Read the code carefully: CC225B and CCA225B differ by one letter. Some Malaysian listings mix them up; one titled “CCA225B … TYPE A” gives “CC225B” as the model in its description.

Voltage-independent?

Some Malaysian electricians prefer voltage-independent RCDs, which don’t need mains voltage to trip, and check the standard on the datasheet: IEC/EN 61008-2-1 means voltage-independent and 61008-2-2 means voltage-dependent. Hager Malaysia’s product pages and datasheets cite only EN 61008-1 and don’t use either term. The EU declarations of conformity linked from those pages go a little further:

• The declaration covering CCA540D and Hager Malaysia’s listed CDA/CEA/CFA 5xx/6xx “D” Type A models lists EN/IEC 61008-2-1, the voltage-independent standard. Other “D” codes that aren’t on Hager Malaysia’s site, such as CDA240D and CDA263D, fall under a declaration that lists EN 61008-1 only.
• The declaration covering CC216B, CC225B and CCA225B (with the CD, CE and CF “B” and “J” models) lists EN 61008-1 only, which doesn’t settle it either way.

So CCA540D is the one 10mA Hager RCCB whose linked documents name the voltage-independent standard. For the other three, ask Hager Malaysia or the supplier. An EU declaration is a European conformity document, not the ST-SIRIM approval required in Malaysia; check the ST-SIRIM label on the unit.

The rest of the list

• 30mA, 2-pole: CD216B, CD225B, CD240B and CD263B (Type AC, Inc 10kA); CD240J and CD263J (Type A, 6kA); CDA525D, CDA540D and CDA563D (Type A, 10kA, 36mm). CD240J is a 40A Type A unit.
• High immunity (HI): CDH240J and CH263J (30mA), CQ263J (300mA) and their 4-pole versions are Type A RCCBs; Hager describes its HI types as having “increased resistance to nuisance tripping”.
• Time-delayed (S): CN240B, CN440B, CN463B, CP463B and CPA684D, for upstream use where downstream RCDs should trip first.
• 4-pole for three-phase: from 25A to 100A, at 30, 100, 300 and 500mA.
• Pages outside the category: Hager Malaysia’s product index, the search index behind its site, has 20 more RCCB pages that the category doesn’t list: 9 marked Obsolete, 9 Spare part (“check availability with your electrical wholesaler”) and 2 Phase out (checked 8 October 2026). Besides CCA525D they include 30mA CD216J, CDA580D and CDH225J, the time-delayed CNA263N, CP440B and CPC263M, and the 500mA CG225B, CG240B, CG425B and CG440B. The product table at the top of the page lists each with its status. Hager doesn’t list them in its current range, though a wholesaler may still have stock.
• Older codes: CDA240D, a 2P 40A 30mA Type A model that appears on Hager’s European datasheets, has no Hager Malaysia page at all, not even one marked obsolete, and we didn’t find a Malaysian listing for it; the comparable listed model is CD240J. Older stock may still turn up, so check its rating against the label.
• Auto-reclosing RCCBs: a separate Hager Malaysia category lists CDA240SC and CDA263SC (1P+N 40A and 63A, 30mA Type A, 3 modules), designed to switch back on after a transient trip.

Prices in Malaysia

These are listed prices on 6 October 2026, from a Malaysian shop site and from Shopee and Lazada stores via BigGo Malaysia. A listing isn’t confirmed stock, and we haven’t examined the products.

One store lists CC225B at RM115 and CD240J at RM135, far below the others; compare carefully before relying on outliers. A BigGo search for CCA540D (10mA) found no listings.

Compared with Schneider and Maxguard at the same rating, 2-pole 25A 10mA:

• Schneider Easy9 EZ9R14225 (Type AC): RM100–121.53 on Shopee; EZ9R26225 (Type A): RM100 in one listing.
• Maxguard E25201N (Type AC): RM91.40 at ene2u.
• Hager CC225B (Type AC): RM215–253.65 in listings not marked sold out; CCA225B (Type A): RM167.20–320.

The same store, Pentagon Electric Mart, lists Hager CC225B at RM215 and Schneider EZ9R14225 at RM100. Comparing like with like, Hager’s Type AC CC225B costs about 1.8–2.5 times Schneider’s EZ9R14225 and 2.4–2.8 times Maxguard’s E25201N, and its Type A CCA225B about 1.7–3.2 times the one EZ9R26225 listing. The ratings aren’t identical: Hager’s CC225B has a 10kA conditional short-circuit rating, against 4.5kA for EZ9R14225. Maxguard has no 10mA Type A RCCB; its Type A 10mA option is the ML32-1 RCBO.

Where to find them

On Shopee and Lazada, Pentagon Electric Mart, Edaran, Combi Electric and CPE Electrical list several of these codes. One electrician in a Malaysian wiring group noted that Hager is sold only by some shops (what electricians say about breaker brands), so ask your usual supplier before assuming a code is available. Order by the full code, and check the ST-SIRIM label on the unit.
