Schneider Acti9 iC60 RCBO in Malaysia: true 2-pole RCBOs, but no 10mA model

Electricians who are careful about water-heater circuits often ask for two things in an RCBO. They want a true 2-pole device, and they want one rated to IEC 61009-2-1, the standard for voltage-independent RCBOs, which keep working if the neutral is lost. Most of Schneider’s Acti9 iC60 RCBOs on its Malaysian list are both of those things. As of 6 October 2026, though, none of them is 10mA, the sensitivity the Energy Commission requires on water-heater circuits.

What Schneider Malaysia lists

2P models: Schneider’s Malaysian pages describe both poles as protected, rated 10kA under EN/IEC 61009-2-1 and 15kA under EN/IEC 60947-2 at 220–240V. They’re 36mm wide (four 9mm modules), twice the width of the 18mm Easy9 RCBO. These pages also describe two features:

  • a “Visitrip” indicator that “reduces intervention time by showing the faulty circuit”;
  • a “Visisafe” green strip confirming the contacts are physically open before downstream work.

A9D17332: Schneider’s page describes three protected poles at 220–240V. It’s not a 4-pole device, so it doesn’t meet the 4-pole requirement for three-phase water-heater circuits described below. Check its intended use with the supplier.

Type A-SI: Schneider doesn’t define “A-SI” on these Malaysian pages. It’s generally described as a Type A variant with extra immunity to nuisance tripping, so confirm with Schneider if that matters for your circuit. Type A detects ordinary AC leakage and pulsating DC leakage from electronics. At 300mA, the Type AC models are far too insensitive to protect people from shock, so they don’t replace a 30mA or 10mA device.

For a water heater?

Not on their own. GP/ST/No.6/2016, the Energy Commission’s water-heater guideline, requires two things:

  • leakage protection of 10mA or less;
  • a 2-pole RCD on a single-phase heater circuit, and a 4-pole one on three-phase.

The 2P iC60 RCBOs meet the 2-pole requirement and the voltage-independence preference. At 30mA or 300mA, though, they don’t meet the 10mA requirement.

For a Schneider device at 10mA from its Malaysian lists, the options are:

  • The Easy9 RCBO, EZ9D16625 or EZ9D16632 (25 or 32A, Type A). It’s 1P+N, so confirm with the supplier how it switches the neutral against the 2-pole requirement. Its datasheet also cites the voltage-dependent RCBO standard.
  • A 2-pole 25A 10mA Easy9 RCCB (EZ9R14225, or the Type A EZ9R26225) with a suitable MCB. At 25A it suits heaters up to about 4.46kW.
  • A 2-pole 25A 10mA Acti9 iID RCCB (A9R10225 Type AC, A9R20225 Type A, A9R30225 Type A-SI) with a suitable MCB, on the same 25A terms.
  • The Acti9 iDPN Vigi 10mA RCBO (A9D02610, A9D02616, A9D08616), which is rated to the voltage-independent standard but only at 10 and 16A, so it suits heaters under about 2.86kW.
  • The Vigi iC60 block A9V10225 (2P 25A 10mA, Type AC) fitted to a 2-pole iC60 MCB: Schneider describes it as voltage independent, so with a 2P iC60 it gives the 2-pole, voltage-independent 10mA combination these iC60 RCBOs can’t, at a much higher price.

Our water heater guide explains the choice.

The 30mA models do fit as protection on individual socket or appliance circuits. A per-circuit RCBO there means a fault trips only that circuit, instead of a shared RCCB taking out half the house.

Other Acti9 RCBOs you may see advertised

Malaysian sellers also list Acti9 RCBOs that aren’t on this Schneider Malaysia list:

  • Plus Power: an iC60H RCBO 1P+Ns 240V (A9D11820, A9D12820; the description shown is a 20A C-curve, 1-protected-pole, 100mA Type A variant). Also an iC60H2 RCBO 2P 110V (A9D19220, A9D19225, plus A9D11220; 30mA Type A). Both descriptions cite IEC 61009-2-2, the voltage-dependent standard, and the 110V label suggests the iC60H2 isn’t meant for 230V circuits.
  • Search listings: RS Components Malaysia shows a 4-pole 16A 30mA iC60 RCBO, element14 Malaysia shows A9D17316, and eezee shows A9D11216, described as “Vd”.
  • Shopee: a store lists an “A9D10820” as 10mA 20A, but Schneider Malaysia has no product page for that code.

Treat these as seller listings and confirm the exact code’s specification before buying.
