Schneider Acti9 iDPN Vigi RCBO in Malaysia: voltage-independent, 10mA options and the 16A limit

The Acti9 iDPN Vigi is Schneider’s 1P+N RCBO: one device that protects a circuit against overload, short circuit and earth leakage. It matters for Malaysian homes for two reasons. Schneider Malaysia’s pages for the models below rate it to EN/IEC 61009-2-1, the standard for voltage-independent RCBOs, which some electricians insist on. And the Malaysian list includes 10mA models, the sensitivity the Energy Commission requires on water-heater circuits. The catch is that the 10mA versions stop at 16A.

What Schneider Malaysia lists

As of 6 October 2026, Schneider Malaysia’s iDPN Vigi list has 55 references in three sub-ranges:

Type AC detects ordinary AC leakage. Type A also detects pulsating DC leakage from electronics. A-SI is on two iDPN H models (A9D38610 at 30mA, A9D48616 at 300mA). Not every combination exists. For example, 30mA Type A in iDPN N runs from 6 to 40A with C curve, but 100mA only comes at 10, 16 and 20A.

The Malaysian product pages we checked (seven, across all three sub-ranges) describe these features:

• one protected pole, worded as “1P+N” on some pages and “2P with 1 protected pole” on others;
• 36mm wide (four 9mm modules), twice the width of an Easy9 RCBO;
• an earth fault indicator on the front face that, in Schneider’s words, “allows quick identification of the type of default”.

If it works as Schneider describes, it may address a common objection from Malaysian electricians: that when an RCBO trips, you can’t tell whether it was overload or leakage. Check it on the device.

The 10mA models and water heaters

Three iDPN Vigi references on the Malaysian list are 10mA, all iDPN N, Type A and 6kA:

• A9D02610: 10A, C curve
• A9D02616: 16A, C curve
• A9D08616: 16A, B curve

The Energy Commission’s water-heater guideline (GP/ST/No.6/2016, Table 6) sets minimum ratings for the circuit’s MCB/RCD:

• 16A for heaters under 2,856W;
• 20A up to 3,570W;
• 25A up to 4,462W;
• 32A up to 5,711W.

So a 16A iDPN 10mA RCBO suits only a heater under about 2.86kW, and a 10A model is below the guideline’s 16A minimum for any water heater. For bigger heaters, Schneider Malaysia’s lists offer three 10mA routes:

• the Easy9 RCBO at 25 or 32A. It’s 1P+N, so the same 2-pole check below applies, and its datasheet cites the voltage-dependent standard. Of these, only its 32A model, EZ9D16632, covers the 32A band;
• a 2-pole 25A 10mA RCCB with an MCB, which covers heaters up to about 4.46kW. The Easy9 RCCB offers this, and so does the Acti9 iID range (A9R10225 Type AC, A9R20225 Type A, A9R30225 Type A-SI);
• the Vigi iC60 block A9V10225 on a 2-pole iC60 MCB: 2-pole, 25A, Type AC, and the one combination whose Schneider pages state voltage independence and 10mA together, at several times the price.

The same guideline asks for a 2-pole RCD on a single-phase heater circuit. The iDPN Vigi has one protected pole, so confirm with the supplier how it switches the neutral if your installer needs to meet that. Our water heater guide covers ratings, cable and the 2-pole question.

Where to find them

• KVC, a Malaysian electrical distributor, lists A9D42610 (10A, 300mA, Type A), with prices for signed-in accounts.
• Lazada and Shopee have store listings for A9D31616 (30mA Type AC, 16A C), including this Lazada listing.

A Shopee listing offers a “Schneider 10mA … IDPN” leakage switch, and cross-border import sites list an “iDPNa 10mA”. On Schneider Malaysia’s list, iDPNa only comes in 30mA. The only 10mA models on its iDPN Vigi list are the three above, though a separate Schneider Malaysia page also exists for A9D08610 (10A B curve). Ask the seller for the exact reference and check it against Schneider Malaysia’s page and the ST-SIRIM label before buying. Import-site listings aren’t local stock.
