Schneider Acti9 in Malaysia: iC60, iID, iDPN Vigi, Vigi iC60 and iPRD, and when you need it over Easy9

Acti9 is Schneider Electric’s higher-specification modular system: the DIN-rail breakers, residual-current devices and surge arresters for distribution boards. It’s the larger of Schneider’s two modular series on its Malaysian lists. Easy9 is the simpler, cheaper one. Acti9 is what you need when a board design calls for a breaking capacity, residual type or surge arrester that Schneider Malaysia’s Easy9 lists don’t have, or a curve or pole arrangement that isn’t on Schneider Malaysia’s Easy9 list.

We’ve researched six Acti9 families on Schneider Malaysia’s product lists, as of 6 October 2026:

  • iC60 MCB: miniature circuit breakers in 6kA, 10kA and 15kA tiers.
  • iID RCCB: earth-leakage breakers, including Type A and the Type B versions Schneider names for EV charging.
  • iC60 RCBO: RCBOs with every pole protected.
  • iDPN Vigi RCBO: 1P+N RCBOs, including three 10mA Type A models.
  • Vigi iC60: earth-leakage blocks that clip onto an iC60 MCB, so the pair works like an RCBO.
  • iPRD SPD: surge arresters with replaceable cartridges; Schneider describes the iPRD20 as for a “medium risk level” and the iPRD40 for a “high risk level”.

The summary below gives each family’s Malaysian list size and ratings.

Schneider Acti9 series

Schneider's Acti9 modular system as researched in Malaysia: iC60 MCBs, iC60 RCBOs, iDPN Vigi RCBOs, Vigi iC60 add-on blocks, iID RCCBs and iPRD surge arresters. Larger Malaysian lists than Easy9, with higher breaking-capacity tiers, more curves, residual types up to Type B and voltage-independent RCBOs.

10mA for a water heater

Malaysian rules require leakage protection of 10mA or less on water-heater circuits, and the Energy Commission’s water-heater guideline asks for a 2-pole RCD on a single-phase heater. Acti9 has more 10mA routes than Easy9, but each has a trade-off:

  • iID RCCB plus an MCB. Four 10mA iIDs, all 2-pole: A9R10216 (16A, Type AC), A9R10225 (25A, Type AC), A9R20225 (25A, Type A) and A9R30225 (25A, A-SI). Schneider Malaysia’s pages don’t say whether they’re voltage-dependent.
  • iDPN Vigi RCBO. 10mA Type A and voltage-independent, but 1P+N with one protected pole, and only 10A or 16A, so it suits heaters up to about 2.86kW under the Energy Commission’s water-heater table.
  • iC60 MCB plus Vigi block. A9V10225 (2P 25A, 10mA) on a 2-pole iC60 is the one combination on Schneider’s Malaysian lists whose pages state 2-pole, 10mA and voltage independence together. It’s Type AC, and it’s the most expensive route: about RM1,336 at 2021 list prices.
  • iC60 RCBO. Two protected poles and voltage-independent, but no 10mA model.

The RCBO category page sets these against Easy9, Maxguard and Hager, and our water heater guide explains the 2-pole and voltage-dependence arguments.

Acti9 or Easy9?

  • Breaking capacity. iC60H and iC60L go to 10kA and 15kA. An iC60N is 6kA under IEC 60898-1, the same as a 6kA Easy9. Seller listings often call it “10kA”, which is its industrial IEC 60947-2 figure.
  • Curves and poles. Schneider Malaysia’s Easy9 MCB list is C curve only, 1P to 3P plus a single 4P part, with no 1P+N. iC60’s list has 1P to 4P, 1P+N, B, C and D curves, and K, Z and MA curves on iC60L.
  • Residual types. Easy9 RCCBs are Type AC except one 10mA Type A model. iID covers 30mA Type A in 2P and 4P, Type B for EV chargers and inverters, and selective versions.
  • Surge protection. Schneider Malaysia’s Easy9 SPD list is empty, so on its Malaysian lists the board SPD is Acti9 iPRD (or the other Acti9 arresters we haven’t researched yet). See the SPD category page.
  • Price. Acti9 lists higher at the same rating. In Schneider Malaysia’s August 2021 price list, before trade discounts, a 2P C25 iC60N MCB (A9F74225) was RM121.00 against RM82.20 for the Easy9 EZ9F56225, and a 2P 25A 10mA Type AC iID (A9R10225) RM540.30 against RM316.20 for the Easy9 EZ9R14225, which has a lower conditional short-circuit rating (4.5kA against 10kA on the iID pages we checked). The Easy9 page has more pairs.

Which one a board needs is a design question for your electrician, not a quality ranking: a 6kA Easy9 and a 6kA iC60N meet the same household breaking-capacity rating.

Buying Acti9

Each family page names Malaysian sellers and prices, from shop sites such as ene2u and Exerlon Power to distributors such as KVC, which shows prices only to signed-in accounts. Order by the full reference (A9F…, A9R…, A9D…, A9V…, A9L…): seller titles mix up pole descriptions and breaking-capacity figures. The Schneider brand page covers Schneider’s distributor network.

We haven’t yet researched Acti9’s iPF K and iPRF1/PRD1 surge arresters or its auxiliaries and accessories, which are also on Schneider Malaysia’s lists.
